Rail & Road Auctions is proud to present our late Winter auction for 2023. This sale consists of six hundred lots over two days. This sale is highlighted by two great collections featuring the Pennsylvania and Rock Island Railroads. This sale also includes other quality consignments from all across the United States.

Thursday March 9th –

The Thursday session features keys, locks, china, silver, menus, passes, uniform buttons, cap badges, and more.

Highlighted lots include:

Along with these highlighted lots are an additional 296 lots of railroadiana for collectors of all levels. The first 200+ lots include keys and locks on the odd numbered lots. The key collection is a continuation of the collection that we offered in our January 2023 sale. There are a large number of Midwestern and Southern United States keys including some scarce keys sure to fill gaps in a number of collections.

The even numbered lots include a wide array of items from the Pennsylvania Railroad from a collection of one family that span multiple generations on the Pennsylvania railroad. The Thursday highlight of this collection is the pass collection that spans multiple railroads and multiple years all issued to the Baker family. Throughout this two day auction you’ll see many lots referencing J.B. Baker and A.B. Baker. Both gentlemen worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and worked their way through the ranks eventually holding notable seniority in their respective departments. There are also a number of pieces of Pennsylvania dining car silver and china from this collection included in the Thursday session.

Also included are a number of lots of railroad, “Smalls” Most of these lots are grouped by railroad and include items such as ashtrays, ink blotting papers, timetables, mechanical pencils, and more. These lots are a great way to start or quickly add to collections with a specific railroad in mind.

Friday March 10th –

Our Friday sale features a number of quality pieces of railroadiana including steam whistles, locomotive horns, cast iron signs, steam locomotive bells and headlights, smoking stands, police and cap badges, station gate signs, cat eye crossing reflectors, bridge builder plates, lanterns, quality paper lots, and more!

The Friday sale will also mark the beginning of a wide ranging Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific collection that we will be highlighting over the coming months. This collection has some INCREDIBLE paper rarities. You’ll see some of these highlighted in this auction with many more in upcoming sales. Notable paper in this session includes a great Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railway, a number of 1800’s and early 1900’s railroad stock certificates, Chicago Railroad Fair paper, 1896 Pennsylvania Lines timetable, Rock Island Trail movie poster, lobby cards, and other movie paper, and much more.
